Chengalpattu Rural Development Society, popularly known as CRDS, is the official Social organization for Justice, Peace and Development. It was bifurcated from Madras Social Service Society (MSSS) in 1990 by the foresightedness of late Most Rev. Dr. Casmir Gnanadickam SJ, then Archbishop of Madras-Mylapore.
The vision of CRDS is to establish a just society and it strives towards the mission of creating Self-respect, Self-reliance and Self-governance among the rural poor through people’s organizations. It promotes women empowerment by giving awareness program and various campaigns. It is also concerned with the activities of the upliftment of dalits and the development of the society. With its preferential option for the poor, it becomes the voice of the voiceless.
The initiative and special program of CRDS - like non-formal skill training, guidance to adolescent girls, employment opportunities, evening study centers, career guidance and humanitarian assistance have reached 436 villages in Kancheepuram District.
