This was a small but very ancient Hindu religious town of the locals and Madurantakam was named after Madurantakam Sadur Vedi Mangalam which means the place for studying vedas. Besides, the town was named after the king Madurantaka Chozhan. It was the plan of Fr. Paul who worked in K.K. Pudur to start a mission in this ancient town. From K. K. Pudur, Gandhi Nagar was made into a separate Parish. For many reasons the Priests from Gandhi Nagar began to reside in Madhurantakam from 1981. In 1984 St. Antony\'s Church and a small presbytery were constructed by Fr. K.M. Thomas in Madurantakam. In the year 1986, it was bifurcated from Gandhinagar. The Parish Annual Feast is celebrated every year in the month of June.
