A Brief History

![\"\"](\"../../img/parish/3.jpg\") This Mission work started in 1877, owing its origin to a certain Mr. Henry (an Englishman) and his wife Caroline Bowers,who was employed in the nearby Railway station. Their dear child John Alfred, 11 months old, died on 15th January 1878 and has to be buried near the Railway station. The British authorities set aside a plot of about 90 cents of land around where the child was buried was given to the authorities of the Archdiocese of Pondicherry, with the intention that the grave might be taken care of and also for the missionary work. It is on this plot that later a small church was built along with sacristy and residence for the Priest. This construction lasted till 1970. |
