According to the ancient history of the Parish, Rev. Fr. Henry Arnold one of the ex-Jesuit Missionaries continued the ministries in Poonganoor, AP even after the supression of the Order in 1773. Because of the persecutions, the Christians from Andra Pradesh landed, first in Vellore and then in Sellampattidai. Fr. Arnold was guiding them to this small village. This Mission was founded around 1775. He laid the foundations of the Church and died at Madras in 1806. Later another ex-Jesuit Fr. Fabri succeeded to work in Sellampattidai. He continued to build the Church to some extent and passed away at Pondicherry. Rev. Mottett of the Congregation of the Foreign Missions who succeeded him completed the Church. From 1994 the Salesians worked in this Mission but again from 1998 the Archdiocese of Madras-Mylapore took up the pastoral care of the Parish. Fr. Aloysius P.M was the first Parish Priest. The Annual Feast of the Parish is celebrated on 2nd February.
