A Brief History |
St. Antony’s Church, Alandur had a humble begining 150 years ago. In 1885, it was a small chapel of 12 feet length, dedicated to St. Antony which pulled great crowds of all religions for worship and prayers. This small chapel was extended in 1919 to accommodate the faithful for Sunday worship. Thanks to the efforts and support of the Catholics of this vicinity, foundation for a new church was laid on September 1981 by the then Archbishop Most Rev. Dr. A. Arulappa considering the pastoral welfare of the people. In 1984 it was raised to the status of a parish church by bifurcating it from its mother parish St. Thomas Mount. The year 2009 marks the Silver Jubilee year of this parish. |
