Thirukazhukundram is a Hindu pilgrim centre. The life of Catholicism started in Thirukazhukundram with some Catholics who came and settled in Thirukazhukundram either for government job or for business. It was at this time that Oragadam Parish was divided from Chingleput and was entrusted to the Salesians. Thirukazhukundram became a sub station of Oragadam. There was no church in this area. In the beginning Sunday mass was held in the house of the Catholics. Gradually, Fr. K. P. Joseph SDB, bought an old building near the Temple Adivaram for starting Tailoring and Screen Printing and to be used as a place of worship on Sundays. In the year 1998, a separate land was bought in Kothimangalam and a multipurpose hall was put up there. In the year 2001, Thirukazhukundram was divided from Oragadam and became a separate Parish and was handed over to the Salesians. On July 24th 2007 as a token of gratitude to our Blessed Mother for the 100 years of Salesian presence in India, a beautiful Church was built by the Salesians and was dedicated to Mary Help of
