In 1986 the Carmelite Fathers, residing in a rented house started their activities for the social and spiritual upliftment of the people in and around Valan Nagar. Since, there was a big extent of land of the Archdiocese without a Church, they were conducting liturgical celebrations in a thatched shed. Seeing the growth of the Christian population in and around Valan Nagar, Most Rev. Dr. Aruldas James, the Archbishop of Madras-Mylapore constituted this into a Parish in 1997 and entrusted it to the pastoral care of the Carmelite Fathers. The Church is typically Indian in style.
