A Brief History

This Parish Mission was started about the year 1830 but the construction of the Church which had been started much earlier was completed only after 1850 by the Catholic Mission of Madras. Already in 1859 according to the census made by one Gleeson about 508 Christians were forming the early community in and around Valarpuram and other villages of Nemeli, Thodukadu and Naipakkam. Now besides agriculture, the mushrooming multinational companies and Engineering colleges in that locality give a certain stability to the life and occupation of these people.
