| A Brief History |
|
 Pavunjur was bifuracated from Thatchoor Parish in 1978 and established as a new Parish with Fr. Irudayaraj as the first Parish Priest. In the beginning people had only a small chapel in the village dedicated to St.John de Britto and later at the bifurcation, a small Church dedicated to the Holy Family was built nearly one kilometer away from the village on the main road. After the creation of the Diocese of Chingleput, it was given to the Pastoral care of the Salesians.
