Perungalathur was one of the Sub Stations of Tambaram.  On 18th August 1973 a chapel dedicated to St. Lawrence was built and blessed by Most Rev. Dr. R.Arulappa the Archbishop of Madras-Mylapore. The Parish was erected in the year 1997 with the changed name as Infant Jesus Church.  The present Infant Jesus Church was built by Rev. Fr. P. John Bosco the first Parish Priest and was blessed by Archbishop Most Rev. Dr. Aruldas James on 15th January 1998. The Annual Feast is celebrated on the 16th January.
